What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy involves performing exercises and therapeutic activities, in water. The buoyancy and resistance of water provide a unique setting to move and exercise without the strain of gravity. Hydrotherapy is a safe and suitable movement and exercise modality for all ages, and you do not need to know how to swim.

Benefits of Hydrotherapy
- Pain Management: The buoyancy of water reduces the impact on joints, allowing for pain-reduced movement and improved range of motion. This makes it particularly beneficial for individuals with arthritis, post-surgery, or chronic pain.
- Improve Strength: Whilst not as effective as land-based resistance training, water can provide sufficient resistance for those post-surgery or significant injury, as well as those in chronic pain or experiencing extremely high levels of pain. Many patients will begin their rehabilitation journey in the pool before progressing to the gym or land-based movements.
- Improved Circulation: Warm water promotes better blood flow, enhancing the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to injured or aching muscles, which can speed up the healing process.
- Muscle Relaxation: Hydrotherapy assists with muscle relaxation, which is beneficial for those with muscle tension, spasms, or stiffness.
- Stress Reduction: The soothing nature of hydrotherapy can have a positive impact on mental health, reducing stress and promoting a sense of relaxation and well-being.
- Weight Management: Hydrotherapy provides a low-impact environment for exercise, making it a great option for those looking to start their weight-loss journey while minimising stress on the joints.

How Does Hydrotherapy Work?
Hydrotherapy with Physiotherapy Active sessions currently takes place at the ARC Campbelltown. Here, patients will perform their customised exercise program under the guidance of a qualified physiotherapist at various times during the week which incudes small group sessions as well as the option for individualised one-on-one sessions if required, in a group setting. Currently, the group hydrotherapy sessions, run on Tuesdays at 11am, and Thursdays at 11:30am, and will have no more than 10 patients.
